Recently admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the New Zealand High Court after over 20 years in ICT, specialising in AI policies, data compliance, and cybersecurity regulations.
Profile
After completing 15 years of higher education and earning multiple diplomas, along with two bachelor’s degrees and two master’s degrees, I realised that I found a deep passion for delving into complex legal issues during my time in law school.
Currently, I provide compliance advice to the Office of the Ombudsman (New Zealand Parliament) to help ensure adherence to standards and effective quality risk management. Also, I volunteer at Community Law and serve as a law tutor at the University of Waikato.
Research focus
AI Policies
The legal issues surrounding AI in public and government agencies include the need for transparency, fairness, privacy, and ethical use of AI systems. Additionally, New Zealand has introduced a Public Service AI Framework and favours a risk-based approach to regulation, aiming to guide the responsible use of AI technologies. Read more.

Globally, data compliance issues encompass evolving regulations like GDPR, managing breaches and cyber threats, balancing privacy with AI and big data, and ensuring compliance in third-party data sharing.
